Cons

Tiles as a material have a few disadvantages. For example, without underfloor heating they can feel cold on the feet, and some tiles are very slippery. So make sure that you do not lay these tiles on the floor, otherwise there is a risk of slipping.

There are cheap types of tile for sale, but if you choose beautiful, large and high-quality natural stone tiles, the price for laying them can be as much as 120 GBP per square metre. Of course, this is a significant expense.

The work will be a nuisance for you. Your floor has to be completely removed so the whole room has to be emptied. You won’t be able to use your bathroom for a few days because the tiles have to dry. The noise will not be so great, but your living rhythm will certainly be disturbed for a while.

Types of tiles

The table above already indicates that a distinction is made between two different types of tiles, namely ceramic tiles and natural stone tiles. This is a common way of describing tile types. Both have certain advantages and disadvantages and it is important that you think carefully about this.

Ceramic tiles: Ceramic tiles are tiles that consist largely of fired clay. This is then finished with a colour or a pattern. This is often a glaze, but there are various options. You have a large number of ceramic tiles with mosaics, with motifs, colour gradients and so on at your disposal. These tiles are water-repellent and very decorative.

Well-known types of natural stone include marble, granite, slate, limestone and quartzite. Because this is a natural material, it is of very good quality, it is strong and unique, because no two tiles are the same. Natural stone gives your floor or wall a luxurious appearance.
