Costs of painting doors
If you want to have the doors of your home painted by a professional painter, but don’t have an idea of the costs, we can help you with this! We have listed below the different options, including prices!
Price of door painting
One important option is whether or not you want to have your door frames painted, too.
|Type of paint job||Price incl. paint, materials and VAT||Amount|
|Doors||220-830 GBP||3-10 doors|
|Doors incl. door frames||740-1600 GBP||10-40 doors incl. door frames|
Factors impacting the cost of door painting
Factor 1: The painter
A painter will charge 27-31 GBP for the painting of a door. This includes everything, such as paint, materials and VAT. If your doors have a different pattern or a window, this can make the paint job more complex and in that case, a painter can choose to charge an hourly rate of 30-37 GBP. This is also often the case when painting door frames.
Factor 2: The paint
If you need a special colour to paint your doors, it can be interesting to order the paint yourself, but if you just want a standard, plain colour, it will be more interesting to have the painter bring it along – this will often save you money. The below table will give you an idea of the price of a litre of paint, including the area you will be able to paint.
|Type of paint||Price per litre, incl. VAT||m² per litre||Details|
|Primer||22-39 GBP||7-13||Base layer|
|Stain and varnish||22-52 GBP||9-15||Protective layer|
|Covering paint||22-48 GBP||4-9||Paint for use inside and outside|
You can opt for special paint to have your doors painted. Blackboard paint is also an option and can be very practical!
|Type of special paint||Price per litre incl. VAT|
|Magnetic paint||26-48 GBP|
|Metalic or glitter paint||22-34 GBP|
|Blackboard paint||26-56 GBP|
Factor 3: Combining paint jobs
If you would like to get multiple parts of your house painted, it may be financially interesting to combine the different paint jobs.
|Stairs||300-650 GBP||1 time whitewashing, up to sanding, cleaning and painting|
|Dormer||390-830 GBP||Whether only the side panels must be painted or the sidebar or full dormer, window frames and window frames included.|
|Ceiling||220-1300 GBP||From 30-45 m², incl. the entire kitchen (kitchen cabinets).|
|Window frames||430-1600 GBP||From 7m² excl. paint to the painting of all outer frames of one house|
If there is a lot of outdoor painting to be done, you can count on the following prices:
|Type of home||Average cost of outdoor painting based on wage for labour, paint, materials and VAT|
|Apartment||830 -910 GBP|
|Terraced house||1200 – 1400 GBP|
|Semi-detached house||2500 – 2700 GBP|
|Detached house||5200 GBP and more|
Tips to save money:
- Winter painter. You can have your doors painted all year round – this does not really depend on the weather! Using a winter painter can mean a savings of up to 30 percent!
- Carry out the preparatory work yourself. You can make the painter’s work a lot easier (and thus cheaper) by carrying out a few tasks yourself, such as moving furniture out of the way or covering the floor with plastic. This will reduce the number of preparatory tasks the painter will have to do and charge you for!
- Lower VAT rate. A while ago, a VAT reduction was introduced for construction work. It has been stopped for many categories on 1 July 2015, but still exists for painting work. You will only pay 6% rather than 21% VAT for this.
Biggest savings: comparing offers
